Dia de Los Muertos

by dfrnt on November 3, 2010 in Life

So, while we were in SF last week, we were walking around Mission St and came across the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.  We walked inside and were lucky enough to be there while their Day of the Dead exhibit was up. The holiday was officially yesterday so we decided to post these pictures up to spread the word, if anyone is in the San Fran area check out the exhibit, which is open until the 20th we believe.

by dfrnt on October 19, 2010 in Art,Life

So we went to pick up our marriage license the other day and as soon as we parked we were reminded of why we love LA. Talk about being inspired by your environment.

by dfrnt on October 18, 2010 in Art,Life

We just realized we haven’t posted any details about the show we’ll be a part of at the end of the month. Those on Facebook might have heard but perhaps those who don’t visit that site haven’t. Here’s a quick rundown of the details just in case, just hit the “more…” link to read more.

Main pc is down!

by dfrnt on September 24, 2010 in Life

Noooo, main pc is down, hopefully it’s just temporary, could be the fan. Using my iPhone to post. Anyway, update, update… We won’t be working on any art this weekend, we have a wedding to plan so we’ll be spending some time focusing on that, we’ll be working on a spontaneous piece next week along with the third piece in a series which we can’t wait to finish. Other than that, we just got back from watching Scott Pilgrim at the $2 theatre, awesome movie, definitely broke new creative ground visually in film and deserves some attention, check it out if you haven’t. Definitely adheres to one of our beliefs, if you’re not creating something different, why waste your time?

This is the first time we’ve been back in over a year, so we’re trying to do it right. We’ll have prints available in several sizes, starting at $7, the few remaining limited edition copies of Obama’s First 100 will be there, and so will a few of our hoodies and tees. We’re throwing in some live painting as well, and someone will become the owner of an awesome original painting after its all said and done. So come on over, bring some friends and say hello.

Venice…

by dfrnt on September 14, 2010 in Art,Life

So we were at Venice early this morning and walked over to the wall for a minute.  We took these cool photos, the work is definitely not ours, just saying that cause I think this is the first post on our site with someone else’s work, and we don’t want any confusion here. It turns out its for an art show, but we haven’t had time to look into it. Just wanted to advertise their show in exchange for the awesome artwork, check em out. Anyway, enjoy the photos, we gotta run.

THANK YOU to Ms. Martin’s class!!!

by dfrnt on September 8, 2010 in Art,Life

We were in Inglewood yesterday talking to a class of 4th graders. We had a mini workshop with the class where we helped them draw self portraits. It was supposed to be a one day, one hour lesson but we enjoyed working with the students so much we went back today to help them finish what they started on Tuesday.  Considering we only had an hour per day with the students, and they are all about 9 years old, we think they all did a great job! We told them there’s a few grown up artists trying to pull off drawings as charming as these so they should be very proud, and keep it up.

Let’s see, as far as our dfrnt work, we finished our Day of the Dead piece, we’re in the middle of copyrighting a few important things, and we’re in the middle of designing our Tata Gala piece as well as writing our book.

Chess…..

by dfrnt on September 6, 2010 in Life

dfrnt chess

So we took a break yesterday  and decided to play chess out on our balcony. The first five minutes I thought to myself, “this sure is nice, I’m so glad we took this break.”  10 minutes later I remembered how long chess takes, I mean come on, make a move already.  As you can probably tell with that attitude, I lost to Mia.

This is as far as I got, she had a king, queen, bishop, and 3 pawns, I had a king and 2 pawns.  At this point I started wondering, is there a legal way to just give up? Come on there’s gotta be, comitting chess suicide is still too slow, how about just surrendering?

Quick Update & Picadillo Recipe

by dfrnt on August 31, 2010 in Food,Life

So we’re still working on that Day of the Dead painting, but it’s aaaaaaaalmost done.  Our whole offset acrylic and ink technique takes a while to pull off.  Since this painting is taking longer than we thought, we’ll have to get back to the books right after this piece and work on the new ones simultaneously. There’s also our wedding in a few weeks which we’re trying to wrap our heads around.  Now, the recipe.

1) Lean ground turkey or beef, we used turkey. Minced garlic, oregano, green olives, olive oil, tomato sauce (recommend El Pato, contains garlic and chili spices), cayenne pepper seasoning, chopped onions, salt, pepper, ketchup, cooked white rice (not all ingredients pictured)

2)Mix the garlic, salt, pepper, and oregano into your meat while the olive oil heats in a nearby pan.  Also mix in some cayenne pepper seasoning  to your liking for spicyness.

3) Cook the meat first, then add the tomato sauce, olives, and even a little bit of the olive juice.

4) Add some ketchup to the mix, this will thicken up the picadillo slightly, which is a good thing. The ketchup and cayenne pepper is the way you balance the spicyness and sweetness in this dish, so sample it to figure out how you like it best.

5) Add the chopped onions, we wait til the end so they don’t overcook and get too soft, but earlier works too.

6) Serve the picadillo above some steamed white rice.

This is an awesomely delicious and inexpensive meal to cook at home in minutes, we gotta thank Mia’s dad for the recipe. THANKS!!
