Real, honest, positive, and empowering hip hop is hard to find, so we decided to share some.
P.S. that’s not a drawing, just a photo tweaked in Photoshop, If we could credit the original photographer we would.

Mexican Billie Jean Cover !!!

by dfrnt on July 11, 2009 in Music

We heard this last night on the radio… briefly, the stereo had really fuzzy reception since we were in a parking structure.  It was hard to make out at first, but then I realized it was a Mexican banda style cover of Jackson’s Billie Jean.  I thought it was awesome, maybe cause I’m Mexican, my girlfriend hated it, but probably cause she’s Cuban and can’t stand 99.999% of banda music.

I just found a good version of the song online, so now I’ll have my girl listen to it again and try to convince her of how awesome it is.  It turns out its by Los Picadientes de Caborca, and it’s a tribute to Jackson.  Jackson’s influence sure is far reaching.

Yesterday, June 16th, was Tupac’s birthday, since he’s always been my favorite rapper, I thought I’d celebrate it like this.  Here’s a pastel illustration I did way back during my Senior year in High School … 9 years ago!
