So next week, August 2nd, is the deadline for the feds to figure out what to do about our national debt problem. Basically, if they don’t raise our debt ceiling, the maximum amount of debt the country is allowed to carry, the government says it won’t have enough cash to pay all of its bills. This statement, “not enough to pay our bills”, is way overused to hype up the situation, they should have enough to cover the necessities. I saw about 1/3 of my paycheck stripped away as taxes just yesterday. In general, the situation is ridiculous, most politicians are simply thinking about the best way to set this up for next year’s election instead of making the hard decisions it will take to start solving the real problem.
We could go and on about what we think regarding this situation but that’s not really what we do here at dfrnt Times, we leave it up to you to make your own informed conclusions. To help supplement your knowledge about US debt and deficits we felt sharing this short documentary would be greatly beneficial. The original version has been around for a while, those numbers are from 2007, which makes looking at today’s even more disappointing. The filmmakers decided to release a free 30 minute version to get everyone caught up with the history and future of this problem, so find some time to sit back and learn. Feel free to share and pass it along using the buttons below.
